The Tax Technology Group is a central function which is responsible for supporting the UK tax practice on corporate, personal and knowledge software. The main activities of the group are delivery of tax software including support, training and development.
The group consists of 13 Tax staff plus an administrator. The team are based in London although there is the opportunity to travel to other UK offices as part of the role.
There is currently a vacancy available to join our corporate tax team.
Working as part of the corporate problems on a timely basis. In addition, the helpdesk members need to brought up to a level of expertise where little or no input will be required from you to allow them to work on and resolve problems.
Responsibility for the other helpdesk team members will also mean that you will have input into their 6 monthly / annual reviews. support team your role would include:
Being responsible for the helpdesk team members, ensuring they are meeting the national Service Level Agreement for working on and resolving
Providing user support for software problems and updates both via the telephone helpdesk and on site where necessary. In addition to learning Alphatax and all of its components inside out, knowledge of the other software applications supported by the group correctness as well as their technology aspects and suitability for working within the IT environment. You would be responsible for ensuring that all areas of the software are tested, all problems encountered were reported to the team manager and the all results were documented, reviewed and signed off prior to releasing a new build to the users.
You will need to liaise with software suppliers and internal IT staff to work towards resolutions of reported problems and testing results.
Working with the team manager, providing ideas and will be needed so that you are able to provide "back up" support for all of the helpdesk, not just the corporate team.
All new software releases have to be tested for tax technical suggestions, to enhance the software to keep it at the cutting edge of the market place.
Assisting the team manager with office visits to deal with local issues and attending internal user group meetings to collect feedback
Ensuring that the team manager is kept up to date on all issues by identifying training requirements by analysing problem trends.
Ensuring that both course material and user guide updates are readily available as soon as solutions or software updates become available and providing solutions or advice via updates to the Alphatax Support Pages on Uknow.

Although this is a software support role it is extremely important that you have good tax skills and we will be looking for at least 2 years experience in a corporate tax compliance role. The role would suit someone who is able to 'think outside the box' to solve problems.
The support desk relies on good team work to ensure they function well and any candidate must be able to work well within a team. Good communication skills are essential. Candidates must be able to communicate clearly both verbally (especially as most helpdesk support involves the telephone) and in written form.
Although previous IT support experience is not necessary we are looking for someone who is enthusiastic and has an aptitude and interest in IT as the work will also involve them building a good knowledge of all corporate taxation software as used by the firm, not only from a tax technical point of view but just as importantly, from an IT perspective as well. This will include understanding how the software reacts to the network, how installers for updates are built by our ICT teams in other parts of Londonand how the latest updates are rolled out to all of the users (Approx *****people).
As a support group we are often under pressure to deliver solutions to UK Tax practice whilst working to tight deadlines so a strong character is required to cope with demands coming in from all areas at the same time.

Other Information
The group often works on large projects, for example, we have recently been responsible for the implementation of new corporate tax compliance software across the whole of the UK tax practice. This involved training approx *****users and the conversion of a large volume of files. Having successfully completed the fist stage of this project we are now about to commence stage 2.
