Leading Financial information provider require a skilled all rounder. Knowledge of Bloomberg, Reuters, Bridge, Datastream would be ideal. Summary of primary role: Manage a team of account managers (including Senior* Account Managers as direct reports) and manage high-value, complex, business critical projects. Manage a portfolio of data providers to our clients products - build and grow these relationships to ensure business success. Acquire data coverage with the widest possible permitted use of the data to fulfil the evolving business and product needs. Secure the best commercial and legal terms for the group and for the efficient incorporation of the data into the group’s product range. Our client is looking for someone with strong negotiation skills who has a good understanding of contracts, perhaps gained in a Purchasing role/Contracts Administrator. Any legal knowledge would be a bonus. This role would also manage two Account Managers, one of whom is based in Asia, this team could increase to at least 4 people. Any people management experience would also be useful. Manage a portfolio of data providers to Thomson Financial group’s products - build and grow these relationships to ensure business success. Acquire data coverage with the widest possible permitted use of the data to fulfil the evolving business and product needs. Secure the best commercial and legal terms for the group and for the efficient incorporation of the data into the group’s product range. Key Responsibilities: Seek high quality providers of data to meet the data requirements of all group’s products as defined in our clients product and data content strategy. Secure the best commercial and legal terms for the group. This includes negotiating the widest possible permitted use of the data by the group and by the group’s clients. Identify and assess further business opportunities with data providers and influence their adoption by the group. Assess for each data project whether it is strategically appropriate or more cost-effective to take the data directly from the source rather than an intermediary (ie. data provider). Seek approval from their Manager if the spend per data project exceeds £35,000*. Proactively monitor and review on an ongoing basis expenditure (renewals and new data spend) on their region of responsibility.* Ensure delivery of new data or enhancements to coverage of group products within tight deadlines. This requires the Manager to: Drive and co-ordinate the activity of cross-company personnel to ensure timely completion of data projects. In most cases the Manager will be project manager for the individual data projects ensuring that each team member understands his/her role and responsibilities in delivery and reporting on project progress. Communicate and negotiate with data providers worldwide to ensure that they complete the supply of data within the timescales required for the project. This requires extensive negotiation, interpersonal and linguistic skills. Develop key data provider relationships, especially with those upon whom the group is highly dependent. Several of these are high value data providers (ie. we pay in excess of £150K pa). In order to understand our leverage position, gain a good understanding of (i) the often complex structures of our data providers and (ii) existing relationships that several individual group companies may have with one data provider. For example, individual companies within the group may receive and pay for the data from the same or from different divisions of a large data provider group. By understanding the total group spend with that provider and by understanding the different relationships that the individual group companies have with the provider, we are in a good position to rationalise spend, negotiate wider rights etc. Manage up to 40 active data provider accounts, with overall responsibility for those accounts and those of the regional team*. Proactively renegotiate existing contracts with data providers on an ongoing basis to derive more value for money. Proactively ensure all Product Managers across the Group companies are aware of the data they can use in their products in order to derive maximum value for money. On an ongoing basis, be responsible for designated departmental management functions eg. training and development, resource planning and allocation, recruitment, managing department-wide projects/initiatives.* Manage (Senior*) Account Managers and provide training and guidance. Be a key source of input into clients data supply strategy eg. potential acquisition of suppliers, direct sourcing. Work on strategic projects as they arise in so far as they are related to Data Acquisition eg. integration of acquired businesses. Experience/Skills/Qualifications Essential Desirable Graduate in Business Administration, Economics, Financial Services (or at least 4 years equivalent work experience) Successful track record in a commercial environment (eg. sales) spanning at least 2 years Successful track record at a senior level in Data Acquisition/Contract Administration.* Knowledge of the financial markets/instruments One or more foreign languages Project management (and managing multiple projects simultaneously, these projects varying in size and complexity ) Excellent commercial skills; numeracy Strong negotiation skills - at senior level with organisations located worldwide; influencing skills. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills Creativity Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Presentation skills Development of and management of customer or supplier relationships across different cultures Staff management Self-motivation Knowledge of drafting and negotiating legal terms Previous employment within a financial information company Understanding of products used in the financial industry and how they are used. Negotiation in monopolistic supply conditions Travelling to frontier or emerging markets |
